Schengen Visa

On 2 February 2020 a new revised Visa Code entered into force. The Visa Code is the legal framework that the Schengen states are obliged to follow when processing application for Schengen visas. The code applies to citizen that are required to have a visa when travel to Schengen. There are several changes in the new revised visa code:

  • The general visa fee increases from 60 to 80 EUR with possible reduction for people under 18 year old-, and children under 6.

  • An updated better application form has also been introduced.

  • With the new visa code an application for a Schengen visa must submitted 15 days before the start of the intended visit but it is also possible to apply earlier than before an application can be submitted six months before intended date of departure to Schengen.

  • The new visa code also introduces something called “cascade” - a harmonized approach to the issuing of multiple entry visas with long validity to regular travelers with a positive visa history for a period, which increases gradually from 1 to 5 years. This means that validity for the visas will be longer than before for the frequent traveler.
